Making dance
more accessible

to economically disadvantaged youth in the Dallas Fort Worth area by providing new or gently used dance apparel and funding to support dance programs.

Relevé

re·le·vé | reləˈvā | noun

French term for a movement in which a dancer raises up on the tips of the toes.

Relevé for Hope harnesses the power of dance to raise up hope for those in need.

Inspiration

The inspiration for Relevé for Hope first came to life when my mom and I were cleaning out my old dance clothes that I had outgrown. As the piles of leotards, costumes, and tutus grew, I reflected on how blessed I was to have had the opportunity to dance since the age of 2 ½ and experience the many amazing benefits dance has brought to my life - including my body, mind, and soul:

  • Body: The physical nature of dance has allowed me to live a healthy and active lifestyle

  • Mind: Dance has strengthened my memory as I have learned choreography for numerous dances, and it has expanded both my analytical and creative thinking

  • Soul: Dance has provided me with a chance to build confidence and poise in front of large audiences, an emotional outlet to express and manage a broad range of feelings, a support system that has celebrated me when I succeeded and lifted me up when I fell, and an opportunity to build lifelong friendships

At the same time, I could not help but recognize that many kids do not have the opportunity to experience these benefits due to economic burdens and the expensive nature of dance. I was inspired to find ways to make dance more accessible to those less fortunate and realized that the stacks of dance apparel sitting in front of me could be used as a first step in achieving this mission.

Hope Symbol

The 8-pointed star found in our logo is known as the Hope Symbol. Native Americans used this symbol to signify guidance and hope for what the future might hold, with the 8 points representing potential paths forward.

The number 8 is also fundamental in the world of dance, where the 8-count provides order and structure to movement.

In a similar manner, Relevé for Hope provides youth with access to the structure, guidance, and hope that is possible through dance.
